An airtight new home with stale air and allergy problems, fixed with an ERV, MERV 13 filtration and humidity control.
The Chens moved into a new, very airtight home and noticed stuffy rooms, condensation on windows and worse allergies. Our air quality check showed high CO₂ in bedrooms and humidity swings from 25% to 65%.
What we did
- Installed an energy recovery ventilator balanced room by room
- Upgraded to a 5-inch MERV 13 media filter cabinet
- Added a whole-home humidifier with an outdoor temperature sensor
The result
- Bedroom CO₂ down from 1,800 ppm to under 800 ppm overnight
- Humidity steady between 38% and 45%
- No more window condensation, and better sleep reported by the whole family
