While you wait for your technician

Simple, safe checks that sometimes solve the problem, and keep you safe if they don’t.

🚨

Smell gas? Get out first

Leave the house, do not use switches or phones inside, and call the gas utility emergency line from outside. Then call us.

🌑️

Check the thermostat

Make sure it is set to Heat or Cool, the set point is above or below room temperature and the batteries are fresh.

πŸ”Œ

Check the breaker and switch

Look for a tripped breaker labelled furnace or AC, and the light-style service switch on or near the furnace.

🧹

Look at the filter

A completely clogged filter can shut a furnace down on high-limit. If it is grey and caked, replace it.

❄️

Frozen AC? Switch to fan

If you see ice on the indoor coil or lines, turn cooling off and the fan on so it can thaw before we arrive.

🚿

Leaking water heater

Turn off the cold water valve above the tank and set gas heaters to Pilot or switch off the electric breaker.

Fixed on the first visit

Trucks that carry the answer

Every truck carries more than 300 parts: igniters, flame sensors, capacitors, motors, control boards and refrigerant. That is why 94% of our emergency calls are fixed on the spot instead of waiting days for parts.

  • Universal igniters, flame sensors and pressure switches
  • Capacitors, contactors and blower motors
  • Common refrigerants with recovery equipment
  • Space heaters on loan if a part has to be ordered

Emergency service questions

Fees, timing and what counts as an emergency.

What counts as an emergency?
No heat in cold weather, no cooling in extreme heat, a water heater leak, a gas smell (after calling the gas utility from outside) or a carbon monoxide alarm (after calling 911).
How much does emergency service cost?
Our dispatcher quotes a flat emergency fee on the phone before a technician is sent. Maintenance plan members never pay overtime, evening or weekend fees.
How fast can you arrive?
In the core service area our average emergency arrival time is 90 minutes. In heavy storms we prioritise homes without heat with vulnerable occupants and plan members.
What if a part has to be ordered?
Our trucks carry more than 300 parts, so this is rare. If it happens, we lend you electric space heaters and fast-track the part, usually within 24 hours.
